The Monastery of Hozoviotissa was renovated in 1088 by Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos to honor the icon of Panagia Hozoviotissa, said to have come from Hozova in Palestine. To protect it from Arab raids, the icon was brought to Amorgos, where the monastery was established. Built literally into the cliffside, the monastery stands 300 meters above sea level, offering a breathtaking view of the endless Aegean blue.

• Located ~2 km from Chora Amorgos

• For hikers from Aegiali, there are three marked paths starting from Xylokeratidi Hotel, Asfondilitis, or Potamos – the latter being the longest in distance and duration.
• About 300 steps (moderate difficulty) are required for the final ascent.
